Galipotes is a little card game for 3 to 5 players, from 8 years old, played over several hands of 5 minutes each.
GOAL OF THE GAME
The goal of the game is to score the most points over several hands, by collecting Galipote cards those values range between 1 and 3 points.
SETUP OF A HAND
Each player starts with a hand of 7 Galipote Cards, distributed from the draw pile.
In the middle of the table, 3 Start cards representing the Galipote hidden behind a tree are laid on top of each other : multicolored eyes, teeth and claws.
On top of the Start cards, a pile of Legend cards is laid face down.
UNFOLDING OF A HAND
Each player plays one after another, clockwise.
During their turn, the players can either :
- lay a Galipote card from their hand or draw a card; as long as it matches both the color and the symbol of the Start or Galipote cards already in play.
- draw a Galipote card.
Some Galipote cards allows the players to perform specific actions :
- When a player lays a "Single" Galipote card (with only one symbol on the left of the right of the card), he must capture all the Galipote card in a row on one side of the tree. Also, when a player captures Galipote cards, a new Legend card is revealed (beginner rules) or voted for (expert rules) ; and his turn ends.
- When a player lays a "Double" Galipote card (with two similar symbols on the left and the right) he may force his opponents to give him any "Single" Galipote card matching his "Double" Galipote card symbols.
Legend cards allows the players to play up to 3 cards in the same turn, as long as the each card has at least one symbol that matches the symbols on the Legend card - that way, players can perform powerful scoring combos.
END OF A HAND
When a player lays his last Galipote card, the game ends. He may capture at random one Galipote card in each one of his opponent's hand.
SCORING
A "Single" Galipote card is worth 1 point
A "Double" Galipote card is worth 2 points
A "Mixed" Galipote card is worth 3 points
BEGINNER AND EXPERT RULES
Beginner rules are great for children; they'll be able to play by simple matching both shapes and colours, take benefit of the current Legend card, and count their score.
Expert rules are more suited for seasoned players: they'll be able to rotate their Galipote cards to lay them upside down and block other rows, and decide by vote if a new Legend card comes into play.
